Ferrets have the most flexible skeletons that will let them squeeze into very tiny openings that you will always wonder, "He went through that hole?" They can fit in one inch holes and spaces - under the cabinets, holes in walls and furniture, under and behind appliances, through window frames, vents, mail boxes, pet doors, fireplace grates, screens, even dampers. Make sure that you patch holes with duct tape until something sturdy can permanently block off the hole. Funny fact about ferrets is that, they can squeeze IN, but they could not just get OUT!
Ferrets love to climb to chairs, couches, and do their scratching on the stuffing of pillows and couches, then minutes later they are already sleeping. Recliners are leading death causes of ferrets because they can crawl inside and get crushed by the recliner. Best not to have these in the house; but if you do, keep it away from a curious ferret. Keep it upright at all times when you are not using it. Also keep stereos and sound systems off and out of reach, and never use a rocking chair while they are outside the cage playing and exploring their way around. Remember that in the eyes of a ferret, EVERYTHING is a toy.
Turn off all electrical appliances as these may cause them electric shocks. Make sure they do not have access to wires, insulation, motors, fan blades, and any moving parts. They may find these as wonderful toys and mobile things to ride on, and eventually get into the accident.
Another funny fact about ferrets is that, they are just too smart to open cabinet and refrigerator doors once they learn how to. That is how smart ferrets are. They like to investigate just about anything and learn their way through it. They also love playing with cable wires and electrical wires, so make sure they are far from the ferrets reach. Even exposed outlets are toys for ferrets so make sure these are all covered.
Never allow them access to laundry areas. There are ferrets who would just dive into an operating washer with all the water, clothes, and bubbles, so make sure these are out of reach too. Plastic bags in the kitchen are tremendous fun and adventure filled toys for ferrets as well. Make sure that you supervise your ferret when playing with plastic bags since this may cause suffocation.
Remove toxic chemicals away from the ferret his reach as well. Ferrets would just dive into anything deep, so include proofing on toilets as well, keep them covered, make sure that they wood not reach the soap since this is harmful for them too.
Ferrets love to push their way into a toilet paper tube, so be careful to put these out of reach.
Ferrets do not have the ability to land into their feet when they fall. Do not give them access to high places. It may look funny, but dangerous for your wonderful pets. Finally, ferrets love kissing especially when paired to another ferret, regardless of the gender. It may appear as kissing to humans but really, they are part of the natural grooming process instinctive to ferrets.
